I See The Beauty

This song was graciously commissioned by the Beaverton
High School Chamber Choir, in Beaverton, Oregon, for their
2024/25 school-year concert season. They requested a song
that would follow one in their program about memories of
loved ones who have passed.
I lost touch with Shane in the last few years of his short
life. But he believed in me so many times when I thought
I had nothing worthwhile to give. And he had dreams bigger
than anyone I’ve known, and he followed them. I was lucky
enough to tag along, and share my love with some of his
dreams.
After his passing, I soon found myself inserting him into
my daily life, wondering what he might say about this, or that.
And then I realized I had been doing that all along during those
last few years in which we lost touch, but just didn’t notice it
then. This is when I realized the true gift of friendship.
The gifts he gave me still live on in my heart; I can still
feel the encouragement from him, shining his light on my path.
And so this song is a celebration of those gifts that we give
each other. The strength we lend to one another continues to
multilply for the rest of our lives.
